Fr. Bruce Taylor

I was reared in a Christian home but decided at the age of 17 that it was all a fairy tale, a psychological crutch for the weak. At the age of 29 I had a powerful conversion experience while listening to Father Ted Nelson of The Church of the Resurrection preach an appeal to intellect. A few months later Father Dennis Bennett prayed for me to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Nothing has ever been the same since.

I had already earned a Master’s degree in Social Work (1974) and was working as a therapist in an alcohol/drug rehab program in the state hospital system of Texas.

I spent three years in the Diocesan School in Dallas, and then three more years at The Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas. From there I went to San Antonio to be an assistant at Christ Church for Father John MacNaughton just prior to his election to the episcopacy in 1985. It was at Christ Church in SA that my ministry began to take shape.

Three of us started a prayer meeting on Wednesday nights prior to the usual Wednesday night worship service. We met in the Children’s Chapel and prayed for an hour. Within eight months our prayer meeting had grown to 65 people. Everyone in that prayer group became both born-again and Spirit-filled. For the next two years everyone we prayed for was healed, regardless of what was wrong with them. In the summer of 1986 I received the ministry of deliverance. We saw a lot of deliverance over the next two years as well.

From there I went to another parish in San Antonio and then on to England in the summer of 1993. I served three parishes in north Oxfordshire. I was admitted to Doctoral Studies at Oxford (Mansfield College), but was kicked out two weeks after admission. My thesis was on a little known aspect of the 12 step method. Many people know that the 12 steps of A.A. were stolen or borrowed from a 6 step method used by the priests of Oxford. But, few know that the priests of Oxford borrowed their 6 step method from the priests of Denmark. In Denmark, however, the 6 steps were not used to cure alcoholism, but rather to cure homosexuality. My thesis was to be some research on using the 12 steps to cure homosexuality. Actually I had already been using the 12 steps to cure homosexuals since 1986. During those years I had only one clinical failure, only one man returned to the homosexual life. All of the others became thorough-going heterosexuals. Anyway, the Professor of the Pastoral Theology Department read my prospectus and kicked me out of the program.

In England I started having altar calls and saw many come to Christ. Following my two years in England, I on to pastor a church in the British Virgin Islands. My stay in the BVI lasted almost three years.

Unfortunately my father’s health began failing and my mother began calling, asking me to come to Dallas to help her take care of him. So, I moved back to Dallas on the 50th anniversary of the Lord Balfour Amendment and the re-establishment of the State of Israel. My father improved dramatically and lived another seven years.

The Bishop of Dallas asked me to start a new mission without any funding. So I got a job in the mental health field and started a new mission in a north Dallas suburb. We started with 25 people and in 31 months we had more than tripled. Many came to Christ for salvation. During those 31 months all but three people prayed for got healed.

I left there to start a new parish in another north Dallas suburb in the summer of 2000. We met every Friday evening at 8:00pm. We worshipped for two hours and then went to prayer. We prayed until 5:00am and then celebrated Eucharist. We all changed considerably during the next 18 months.

It was during that period that I got involved in Kairos prison ministry. It is a three-day weekend based on Cursillo, but adapted for men inside the walls. I got involved with a group that goes twice a year into a maximum security prison in east central Texas.

Revival and the signs, wonders, and miracles described in Mark 16:15ff and in the Acts of the Apostles continue to follow this ministry. People still come to Jesus Christ, get delivered & healed and are discipled. I am more hungry to stand in the Glory of God now than at any time in my life. We meet to worship the Lord on Sunday mornings at 11:00am. I can’t wait to see what God is going to do next week.
